2016 is a new year, and this year I want to make sure I make more portraits. Portrait and headshot photography fascinates me, there is something about photographing people, complete strangers. It always amazes me how much people ‘change’ from the first frame to the last one, and one of the things I enjoy the most, is to share this images with my clients. There you can see how trust and confidence go a long ways. In the first couple of photographs, the subject is usually shy, un comfortable, its a new environment, a room you’ve never been in before, there are lights, stand, more lights and a camera with a huge lens pointing at you. Love coaching my clients though the whole process and what really makes me happy is to show people the end result (meaning that last frame, not an edited image) and the go WOW!, I usually get things like:’
- “…is this really me?!…”
- “…I didn’t know I looked like that…”
- “…Thats exactly the way I want to be perceived!…”
There is more to headshot and portrait photography than taking a picture. Yes, you have to know your basics, camera, gear, lighting. This one been one of the most important ones, you need to know what lighting setup to use for any particular situation. Are you photographing a leader, CEO, lawyer or is it an actor, model or musician. Each portrait and headshot should be thought about careful and pick the best lighting for it, but there is also the posing and the emotion. The message has to be clear:
Trust a professional, a professional should know how to bring all this elements together and make a very strong image of who you are and what you represent, either in studio or on-location.
So, yes. This year I will be doing more portraits and would love to get YOU in front of my camera. If you are needing a new headshot, updated profile or social media image, please let me know!
